Disabilities council appeals to motorists after advocate’s death
The Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities is again appealing to motorists to be mindful of all road users, especially disabled persons.
The Council is encouraging members of the disabled community to traverse the roadways with care.
The reminder comes days after Marlon King, a well-known advocate for the disabled community, died in a motor vehicle accident in St Andrew.
King, who used a wheelchair, was reportedly hit by a Jamaica Urban Transit Company bus as he attempted to cross Golding Avenue, in the Papine area on Thursday.
The Council says it is aware of plans by the National Works Agency to make Papine a disability-friendly space and hopes that, with this tragedy, work will commence soon.
It also hailed King for his many accomplishments and his fearlessness in speaking out on the issues facing the disabled community.
