Suriname prison guards strike
More than 500 prison guards have been protesting in Suriname over the slow pace of implementation of agreements reached with the Government.

The guards, at three correctional centers, took the action after an ultimatum to the government expired last week Friday.

The guards, represented by the Prison Guards Union, voted to continue their industrial action and have warned that they could continue their action if talks with the authorities fail to produce any settlement.

The Union’s president Gustaaf Gallant said that talks with the government over the past few weeks have been unproductive.
