The semi-finals of the Portmore Metropolitan Cricket League will be played tomorrow.

Colours International face Ken's Wildflower at the Bridgeport Sports Ground and Waterford take on Portsmouth at Waterford High School. Both matches start at 11:00 a.m.

Waterford defeated Colours International twice this season - in the mid-season final and also in the preliminary round and Colours will want to avenge those defeats.

However, before that Colours have to get past Ken's Wildflower which won a league leading four consecutive games. Meanwhile, Portsmouth don't appear to have enough weapons to put a dent in the armoury of a confident Waterford team searching for a mid-season and league double.

Last Sunday, Ken's Wildflower defeated Reid's Pen by seven wickets at Portsmouth.

Scores: Reid's Pen 118 all out, Denrick Pinnock 32; Denworth Barber 2-19, Lloyd Rattray 2-19; Ken's Wildflower 120-3, Lloyd Rattray 36; Robert Heron 2-32.

At Hamilton Gardens, Colours International beat Hamilton Gardens by 24 runs. Scores: Colours International 135 all out in 30 overs, Kerry Scott 53 not out, Lloyd Black 21; Gary Brooks 4-5 (six overs), Dennis Bulli 2-26. Hamilton Gardens 111 all out, Tamar Lambert 50.

At Waterford, the home team crushed Belmont by nine wickets. Scores: Belmont 62 all out, Mark Granstan 22; Gary Herbine 5-20, Courtney Elliot 2-12. Waterford 64-1, Peter Colquhoun 32.

At Bridgeport, Portsmouth whipped Washington CC by 127 runs. Scores: Portsmouth 223-8, Roland Henry 45, Hugh Hinds 37; Andre Reynolds 3-39. Washington CC 96 all out, Andrew Smith 34; Gerald Laing 4-35.

JCA targets St Thomas

The Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) will be staging a Talent Identification and Development (TIDD) activities programme in the parish of St. Thomas at Goodyear Oval today.

The session will bowl off at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m.

The TIDD programme is entitled 'Creating a Wider Base of Support' and its objectives are to widen the net from which national teams are selected; to expose talented players - boys and girls - to the best available coaching; to create a players database aimed at addressing fundamental weak-nesses of our younger players at an early stage and to assist in developing a career pathway for our best coaches.

Brian Breese, the JCA opera-tions officer, will supervise the session.

The panel also includes Junior Bennett, national senior coach; Andre Coley, national Under-15 coach; Cleon Smith, national senior and Under-19 women's coach and David Bernard Sr., national trainer.

It is expected that after these activities, the local associations will implement initiatives aimed at the continued development of the players.

20/20 Super Eight bowls off

The final two Social Development Commission National Community Cricket Championship quarter-finalists will be known today when Wood Park face Sherwood Forrest and Roehampton take on Granville.

The Wood Park/Sherwood Forrest match at Wood Park in St. Mary last Saturday was abandoned due to heavy rain at the end of the Sherwood Forrest inning and before Wood Park could face a ball.

Roehampton lost to Broughton on Sunday and are therefore facing a must-win situation against Granville in order to move on to the Super Eight stage of the championship.

The Super Eight matches will be played later this month while the semi-finals will bowl off in November. The final and third-place play-off will be held at the newly-built stadium in Trelawny on Saturday, December 2.

Lakes Pen, Heartease, Lititz/Comma Pen, Race Course, Broughton and Annotto Bay are through to the Super Eight stage after the scheduled end of the preliminary round of the national phase of the championship, which was played last the weekend.

The community teams are vying for a major cash prize and tickets to a match in the 2007 Cricket World Cup to be held in the Caribbean between next year March and April.
