The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA)is to launch a sensitization campaign in several communities in an effort to stamp out illegal dumping.

The NSWMA says the major challenge is that residents continue to create dump sites even after they have been cleared by crews from the Metropolitan Parks and Markets (MPM).

It says since last Friday, the MPM has cleared nine dump sites totaling 41 truckloads of garbage.

According to the NSWMA, these dump sites were located in Tivoli Gardens, along Bustamante Highway, Blount Street, Hannah Street, Charles Street, Rose Lane, Beeston Street, Stable Lane and Upper King Street.

The NSWMA says within minutes after one of the sites was cleared, the MPM team returned to see six bags of garbage on the open lot.

However, the NSWMA says the clean-up exercise will continue in the coming weeks.

But it says its Community Relations Department will begin door-to-door exercises, and workshops to educate residents about the problems caused by illegal dumping.
