Another private-sector company has come forward to assist the country’s preparedness for the threat of the Ebola virus.

Supreme Venture Limited has announced plans to donate millions of dollars to the government to purchase hand-held thermal sensors and other items to assist Jamaica’s Ebola preparedness and response activities.

The donation will be made during a ceremony scheduled to take place at Jamaica House on Monday.

On Tuesday, the Sagicor Group donated a walk-through fever scan machine valued at US$38,000 to the country’s Ebola preparedness efforts.

The walk-through fever scan machine will be installed at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James while the hand-held sensors will be distributed at all airports and other ports of entry.

They will be used to screen incoming travellers for the fever, which is one of the primary symptoms of the disease.

Chairman of the Sagicor Group Richard Byles, in making the donation, urged other private-sector companies to come forward and contribute to the acquisition of four more machines for the Norman Manley International Airport, in Kingston, and the three major seaports where tens of thousands of tourists arrive on cruise ships.
