Girls at the Homestead Place of Safety in Stony Hill, St Andrew, who are preparing to exit State care, now have a newly renovated cottage to call home.
This is as a result of this week’s handing over of the transitional living facility by the Rotary Club of St Andrew and the British High Commission to the Child Development Agency which manages Homestead.
The transitional house which is a project of the Rotary Club of St Andrew was funded by the British High Commission and other donors to the tune of $5.5 million, and is equipped to house 10 girls.
It comprises three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living and dining room, washroom, and kitchen.
The project involved the installation of a new roof and ceiling, rehabilitation of the internal structure and drainage, electrical rewiring, termite treatment, painting of the interior and exterior walls, replacement of doors and windows, tile work, and general carpentry throughout the entire building.
