The Transport Ministry has cut the proposed increase in the fares for senior citizens traveling on Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses.
The Ministry says instead of paying $60 come Sunday, people 60 years and over will now pay $40.
At present senior citizens pay $20 on JUTC buses.
They had complained that they could not afford an additional $40 come Sunday.
Following a meeting with Government representatives and public sector unions today, the Transport Ministry said the Cabinet has agreed to a $20 roll back.
However, while senior citizens will now pay $40 instead of $60, there will be no change in the announced fare structure for the other categories.
This means that come Sunday adults will pay $120 up from $100 while students and the disabled will pay $30 up from $20.
President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association, Oniel Grant, who was at today's meeting says several proposals were made.
Grants says the civil service association wants the Government to acknowledge that public transportation is not only for Kingston and St Andrew.
He wants the JUTC and the Transport Ministry to develop policies that ensure that public transportation is available across the country at rates similar to what exists in Kingston.
At present, the transportation cost is more expensive in rural area.
